Making music away from your instrument and why it matters

I need to do a post about why an hour a day at your instrument is actually more than you think, because a vast amount of stuff can be achieved away from the instrument. Much of my best writing and problem-solving used to occur while sitting in traffic to and from work. Since I moved closer to my job, a great deal of that now occurs during the time between lying down at night and falling asleep. I generally get into bed about an hour before I need to, and while I’m horizontal and winding down in the dark, I let my music spool out in my mind and take note of how I seem to want it to sound, or sometimes how my hands seem to want to move.
