Driving to work today, I decided that if writing music had to be done away from the piano, and a background process running all the time, then I’d better actually do it and started humming to myself.
I hit on something nice. It’s a bit “Shirley Jones with a ponytail singing in the moonlight” but I like it, and it’s a cute little musical quatrain. I hit on it, pushed and prodded a bit, and then just hummed it to myself nonstop all the way to work — a 30 mile drive, mind you — so I wouldn’t forget it. I’m looking forward to writing it down when I get home tonight, but I’m not entirely sure of the key signature. If it’s not 6/8, I can’t keep track. I think it’s 4/4, which for me might as well be (sqrt(2)+3i)/pi.
Oddly, I can hear it in my head on either a piano, or as a piano+trumpet piece. Strange. It probably needs lyrics, but I’m not in the mood for words lately.
